The Cadore, a cultural, adventurous, spectacular, authentic and wild environment.
Spectacular environmental scenery, adventurous guided walks, authentic panoramas, immersed in local culture and tradition.
The Cadore can be reached in just over an hour from Venice and the international airports of Tessera and Treviso. A motorway network facilitates travel northwards as far as Longarone. The railway also arrives in Cadore with its terminal station in Calalzo. Numerous coach services connect the airports and the Mestre railway station with Cadore.

The setting for the RAI TV series ‘Un passo dal cielo’ (One step from Heaven) and several films including ‘Suddenly Christmas’, ‘Suddenly I’m getting married at Christmas’ and ‘A sudden case of Christmas’, the area stands out for its many strengths: nestled between the two most spectacular mountain systems of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites, the Tre Cime di Lavaredo in primis, system no. 1 Pelmo-Mondeval, Croda da Lago dominated by the Pelmo massif (the Caregon del Padreterno=Throne of God), the No. 5 system of the northern Dolomites that includes Mount Antelao, the King of the Dolomites, the Sorapiss group with the Croda Marcora and the Marmarole group. A significant cultural heritage: from Titian Vecellio with his numerous works scattered in the churches of Cadore, to the magnificent Community of Cadore, which bears witness to the ancient relations with the Venetian Republic, the important Museum Network distributed throughout the territory (Titian’s Birthplace, Museo dell’Occhiale the Cadore Archaeological Museum), the Lagole archaeological area with its important Paleovenetian artefacts on display in the Museum of the magnificent Cadore Community, the Mondeval area where the Mesolithic period hunter ‘the Man of Mondeval’ was found, and the Giau Wall in the spectacular area of the Giau Pass.

Contemporary art finds its place in Cibiana, the village that paints its history, with its famous murals, a village to be explored; in Borca di Cadore, landscape and environment blend with architecture in the Ex Villaggio Eni, with the church of Nostra Signora del Cadore, a site conceived by the expansive mind of Enrico Mattei, and realised with great architectural quality, by Edoardo Gellner in primis, in collaboration with Carlo Scarpa.
The history of the Great War is witnessed by numerous fortifications (Monte Rite, which houses the highest museum in Europe, the Messner Mountain Museum, Monte Piana with the trenches of the Great War, the Monte Ricco Fort, to name but a few). Religious tourism also finds ample space to visit: in Lorenzago, a museum dedicated to Pope Vojtyla and the pope’s trails have been erected following the numerous papal holidays.
The phenomenon of Italian eyewear was born in Cadore, as witnessed by the Eyewear Museum. Numerous company outlets and optical shops are popular with tourists. The beauty and authenticity of the landscapes, with vast wild, unexplored spaces, where silence reigns and low anthropic impact, have inspired film companies to make Cadore the setting for the well-known television drama ‘Un Passo dal Cielo’ (One Step from Heaven) and several films by the Notorious Picture production company promoting the Cadore Dolomites. In addition to the tourist values described above, numerous sporting activities can be practised in Cadore, from skiing in the San Vito, Auronzo and Misurina districts of the Dolomiti Superski ski area with Cortina, to the slopes of Padola in Comelico Superiore. These ski areas are particularly suitable for families, also due to the presence of snow playgrounds dedicated to children. In addition to alpine skiing, there is a strong growth in other low environmental impact sporting activities such as: Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, and ski mountaineering with itineraries to be undertaken in safety with the assistance of alpine guides. In Pieve di Cadore and Auronzo there are ice stadiums also open in the summer season. The active summer holiday is played out in a natural theatre of the first magnitude. High-altitude hikes benefit from numerous alpine refuges, also crossing the Alte Vie.
The Lunga Via delle Dolomiti is part of the Munich-Venice Friendship Cycle Route, which is very popular with Nordic tourists and has been described by many as one of the most beautiful cycle routes in the world due to the varied landscape of the rugged Dolomites. Between one stage and the next, the villages of the Boite Valley and the Cadore Centre are also excellent stopping points for the cultural offerings and the presence of refreshment and accommodation facilities. The ‘malghe’ (shepherd’s huts) and the numerous farms in the area offer high quality products, for example the well-known ‘Cappuccio di Vinigo’, meat processing and dairy products are also among the area’s excellences.
Target Audience The Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Games, given the proximity of San Vito and the Cadore villages, are the natural basin for hosting athletes, their entourage and spectators, which makes it necessary to raise the bar of quality in view of the games. This is the focus of the consortium’s efforts to arrive prepared for the great event. To date, the area’s target audience is predominantly leisure tourism of families and groups, nature lovers, slow holidays, and the high value of the Dolomite environment. Increasingly, a sensitivity towards the pure and uncontaminated environment is felt among customers. Another theme sought after by guests is knowledge of local traditions and culture, and active holidays are also a must in every season. The hospitality of sports groups on retreat for athletic preparation is growing strongly, an example being the football retreats that see the presence in Cadore of first-class teams. The presence of the Venezia FC team on retreat in San Vito strengthens ties with the Venetian land, enhancing the spirit of the ‘Dolomites The mountains of Venice’ brand. A new target clientele, recently acquired, are the fans of the well-known RAI TV series ‘Un Passo dal Cielo’, strongly supported by the Veneto Film Commission, who travel to Cadore to discover the spectacular locations of the drama.
