DESCRIPTION
The Via Ferrata Caprioli in San Vito di Cadore, opened at the end of June 2024, is a recent addition that enriches the offer for mountain and via ferrata enthusiasts.
Built thanks to the economic efforts of numerous local authorities, it is located in the heart of the Dolomites and offers a combination of technical challenges and amazing views of the surrounding peaks. This ferrata was created by the Cortina Alpine Guides and offers a medium-difficulty route with challenging sections, suitable for experienced hikers. The Ferrata is named after the Caprioli San Vito Sports Association, active since the post-war period and promoter of various sports activities, in particular skiing and climbing. The association has contributed significantly to the development of local communities.

ACCESS
Reach the Baita Sun Bar from San Vito di Cadore and park nearby. From here take path no. 228, cross the Ru Secco stream, and continue for about 20 minutes until you come to a fork in the road. Take the small forest road to the left, which is very steep and marked with the logo of two opposing roe deer heads. Follow the path to an altitude of 1470 m, the starting point of the ferrata.

ASCENT
The climb is characterised by an incredible panorama and breathtaking views of the Dolomites, in particular of Monte Antelao.
Along the route you will find grassy initial sections that can become slippery in the rain and high sections with rocky slabs and metal support brackets. The ferrata ends at a panoramic meadow, Pra de Mason, at 1750 m altitude. From here, it takes about 20 minutes to reach the San Marco refuge, a little gem at the foot of Cima Belprà and in view of the majestic Monte Antelao.

DESCENT
From the San Marco hut, follow path no. 228 which passes the Scotter hut and returns to the Sun Bar hut, completing the loop in about an hour.
