Borca di Cadore

Borca di Cadore is located 942 metres above sea level, in the northern part of the Veneto region, not far from Venice.
An ideal location for summer and winter holidays, surrounded by the beauty of the Dolomite landscapes, Borca is situated in a strategic position, making it possible to undertake daily excursions suitable for different levels of physical fitness: from the simplest walks in the larch and fir forests, or along the route of the former Dolomite railway, to vie ferrate and climbs on the surrounding peaks.
Borca is located at the foot of Mount Antelao, the King of the Dolomites, and is one of the Cadore villages from which one can enjoy the most rewarding and complete view of Mount Pelmo, which, due to its chair-like shape, is also called el Caregón de ‘l Padreterno (il trono del Padreterno)
The town is made up of villages, including Villanova, a splendid holiday resort on the right bank of the Boite river, immersed in the tranquillity of meadows and woods.
The resort is also a support point, during the winter, for those wishing to ski in the San Vito di Cadore and Cortina d’Ampezzo ski areas: the San Vito Ski Area, in fact, is only a few kilometres away, while Cortina is about 16 km away. A convenient ski bus service connects the two locations and in a short time allows ski enthusiasts to enjoy wonderful slopes.
Even in winter, excursions continue with snowshoes on trails that usually lead to mountain huts, where you can warm up in front of the delicious and unique flavours of the Dolomites.
To entertain adults and children alike, the Happy Park in Borca di Cadore is equipped with an ice skating rink during the winter season, while in summer the little ones can enjoy sunny days at the playground and adults can use the tennis, five-a-side football and bowls courts, or relax on the sun terrace.
A wellbeing centre, the Corte SPA, modern and super-equipped, makes Borca a destination for those who, after the exertions of sport, like to treat themselves to the ultimate in relaxation with a swimming pool, sauna and massages, with a dream view of the majestic Mount Pelmo.
In addition to tourism, traditions and culture remain alive in Borca di Cadore, where the Ladin language and respect for the environment are themes present in the daily lives of residents.
The specialised library of the Istituto Ladin de la Dolomites and the well-stocked library ‘La Scola‘, with the adjacent cultural centre and the ‘Olimpia Perini’ nature museum, are open and available to those who wish to learn more about the riches of the village.
The Church of Saints Simon and Thaddeus, which was half-destroyed by a landslide in 1737, preserves an organ from 1791 built by Gaetano Callido, the most famous organ builder of the time. The organ has been restored and is still used today for concerts and church performances.
At the foot of Mount Antelao is the former Eni Village wanted by Enrico Mattei, founder of ENI-AGIP, designed by architect Edoardo Gellner and built in 1954-1963 to house the company’s employees during their holidays. The redevelopment and enhancement of the area is currently underway.
