CYCLING AMONG THE MURALS

The itinerary starts from the clearing in front of the parish church of Cibiana di Cadore, a village in the province of Belluno known for the murals that decorate the facades of the houses.
From here, take the main road in the direction of the Cibiana Pass. After a few metres, up a steep road on the right towards the hamlet of Pianezze, you can admire the first paintings. Opposite the little church of Pianezze, on the right-hand side of the Murales dell’Emigrante, a passageway under a house leads to a descent full of extraordinary works. Having reached the carriageway again, the route continues downhill towards the hamlet of Cibiana di Sotto, offering a spectacular view in the direction of the parish church. On the right, after a barn, we can glimpse a tensile structure, and advancing in this direction we enter a maze of small lanes, an enchanted corner, from which we proceed downhill along via Cibiana di sotto, which runs alongside a stretch of the Rite stream.
The road soon begins to climb again and after the first ramp of about 200 metres, we reach the hamlet of Masarié, guardian of extraordinary murals, the first of which on the left is entitled ‘Bottega’. Leaving Masarié, we continue uphill towards the main road.
Up to this point we have travelled 3 km: to return to the point from which we started, the parish church of Cibiana di Cadore, we must turn left along the main road for 500m. Those who instead wish to continue along the dirt roads of Cibiana will have to turn right, to take, after the bend, the first small uphill road on the left. After a few metres, when you reach a fork in the road, keep to the stretch that heads further downhill towards the hamlet of Col. After passing the last house in the hamlet of Col, a dirt track about 2,200 metres long begins in the forest.
Having covered the first simple stretch, at the crossroads, leaving the small football pitch on the right, we continue straight on along a well-marked path through the woods, and never too demanding, until we reach a barrier, a little further on, the finish line: the woods give way to a fantastic view of the Antelao and the valley below, bordered to the north by the Tofana di Rozes, an ideal spot for souvenir photos.
The return trip is made by following the same route back to the main road that leads back to Cibiana di Cadore.
