Being a long, difficult and demanding route we must first check the weather conditions making sure they are excellent. Starting from the Totem which lies in the Municipal Park of San Vito di Cadore,1011meters above sea level,we head toward Cortina d’Ampezzo on the bike track N.1, which runs mostly along the road S.S. N.51. After 4 km slightly uphill on an asphalt road we arrive at “Dogana Vecchia” which was the old state border between Italy and Austria till the end of the First World War.

Reached Acquabona (7 km)we turn left, leaving Pian da Lago on the right hand side, we cross the ”Socol” bridge on the  “Boite” torrent. Along a forest
track we get to the delightful “Pianozes” lake, and from there, on the left, in direction of “Malga Federa” or “Croda da Lago”. We start a long
and exacting but very satisfying climb (10 km) up to 2045mt. We may enjoy a rest at Malga Federa or at the higher “Croda da Lago” refuge. Here the beauty of nature, mountains and the lake are breathtaking.

The southward path takes us to “Forcella Ambrizzola”, (2275mt) a suggestive saddle between two marvellous mountains, “Croda da Lago”
and “Becco di Mezzodì”. Then, going downhill, we follow the direction for “Malga Prendera” (2153mt) on the CAI path n. 436 and then on the
n.458 to the “Roan” saddle. Upon the saddle, we head to “Val Fiorentina” on the CAI path n. 467, in order to reach the “Città di Fiume” refuge
at the foot of the Pelmo Mountain, where a rest is recommended.

Following the CAI pathes n.480-468 we return to the “Valle del Boite” through  Forada saddle (1986mt). We face a steep descent towards
Borca di Cadore which is very difficult, it is advisable to walk the first stretch. Through “Tiera” site we get to the “Villanova di Borca” village,
along beaten tracks, there we turn left on Marciana Rd towards San Vito di Cadore through Serdes village.
