We are in the centre of Vodo di Cadore, where the small church with its unique bell tower, the old school building, the fountain and the characteristic pavement provide a picturesque backdrop to the start of our route. We ascend towards the main road and take the Dolomites cycle path, in the direction of Cortina, as far as Borca.
Here we leave the track near the Cancia restaurant and, downhill, keeping to the right, we proceed towards the town centre. Past the sports fields we descend in the direction of the church and cemetery to the Cancia bridge. Having crossed the bridge, we immediately turn left along a short, pleasant little road that leads us to our destination: the Varettoni mill.

After a well-deserved rest, here we face the climb back to the village along the same road as the outward journey. The return to Vodo can be made either by using the cycle path again or, with a little more difficulty, along some sections of the characteristic old Strada Regia, following the signs along Via Garibaldi and Via Cavour. The off-road section appears pleasant, but is more challenging than the cycle path; moreover, at a point at the Rio Val Forada, it is necessary to get off the bike for about 50 m., follow the steep path downhill on foot and climb up the slope, from the opposite side to get back on the saddle on a wide grassy expanse. Continuing on, go around an isolated house on the right and, having resumed the path, pass under a large electricity pylon on your way to Vodo.

The route narrows considerably, so it is more prudent for the less experienced and the very young to ride it down from the saddle. Having reached the village, we recommend, before returning to the starting square, to take a closer look at the lake, bending 90 degrees to the right along a small road preceded by an obvious ‘Lago di Vodo’ sign. The descent ends at the dam, we cross it and allow ourselves a few moments of relaxation admiring the waters of the Boite on the opposite bank.

The return journey is made by pedalling along the dirt track that starts from the square in front of the dam, first reaching a clearing and then the small road connecting with Malga Ciauta. Along the latter, descending for a few metres, we cross the bridge to finish, the last effort, with a climb back to the village across the Vodo sports fields to the starting square.
